Winter Weather Operations

The City of Barnwell is in close communication with Barnwell County Emergency Management regarding the pending winter weather activity for this weekend. As the forecast for our area continues to vary concerning the potential impacts to roads, and utilities, with possible icing conditions we want to share the following. Continue to follow trusted media and weather forecast outlets for the latest in preparation, and conditions expected for the weekend. Those using portable generators use caution with regards to (CO) Carbon Monoxide Poisoning from exhaust fumes entering your home. Keep the generator outside and at a safe distance away from your home and make every effort to have the exhaust fumes travel away from any doors, or windows Have a CO Detector in your home as a safety measure when using portable generators. Use of candles or flame operated lanterns are a fire risk and use with caution. As for City Services, Good Ole Boys Garbage pick up will continue to run their regular schedule on Monday conditions permitting. If the cart is not picked up at the normal time continue to leave it out until it is picked up which may be delayed due to road conditions. As for City Hall we will monitor the road conditions on Monday morning and if or when it is safe for travel our staff will report in and open for operations. As for reporting Water and Sewer emergencies use the Barnwell County Dispatch number (803) 541-1080 during the weekend and on Monday if City Hall Offices are still closed. Fire and Police will fully staffed for emergencies throughout the weather event.
