Litter and Beautification

The City of Barnwell has received another Palmetto Pride Grant for our Litter Crew for 2024.  We are excited and are well on our way in working to rid our community of litter.  Please contact us through the website or call City Hall if you know of a regular dumping ground within the city limits.  

THANKS to our LITTER CREWS for the MONTH OF MARCH!!!  AREAS cleaned were Oak Lane, Lake Drive, Center Street, Grant St., Old Castle Rd. = 83 tires, 1 bed, 4 toilets, 3 tvs, 1 toaster oven, and 48 bags of trash!  PLEASE do NOT dump trash on our roads.  There are recycling centers and the landfill available for these items.  

THANKS for MAKING A DIFFERENCE!!!  Volunteers County Council member Ben Kinlaw and City Council member Peggy Kinlaw and Paul and Liz Ringus made a great big difference in the City of Barnwell On Saturday April 1, 2023.  Darlene Sanders also made a big Difference out on Hwy 64.  Thanks to everyone!  It was a great load taken off our streets.  19 Bags of trash, 2 mattresses, 2 tires, 2 tarp, 1 styrofoam block and 1 plastic chair!

Thanks to our Street Dept./Litter Crew, during 2022, the City of Barnwell has picked up 360 bags of trash, over 8 tons of debris and have spent over 450 hours cleaning up our parks, streets, and dumping grounds.   Please continue to help us by NOT littering.  

Community Clean Up Campaigns

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN BARNWELL DAY!

Thanks to our volunteers, including Council Member Ron Still, Mayor Pro-tem Peggy Kinlaw, and County Councilman Ben Kinlaw for gathering litter during our August Make A Difference Day!

Thank you to the new Barnwell Interact Club members, Calvin Coach, soon-to-be-sworn-in Councilmember Ron Still, Council member Ryan Bragg and family and Liz Ringus (not pictured), and our newest street employee Maurice Watson.  We picked up 16 bags of trash on Monday, Dec. 13 from Jackson, Gilmore, Bryan, and Wellington Streets.  Thank you to everyone who volunteered for 2021.    

Thank you to Liz Ringus, Ron Still and Eric Moore for helping to clean up on Monday, November 8.  We picked up 8 bags and a grocery buggy.  

Thanks to the Kinlaws (Peggy and Ben), Ron Still, Liz Ringus and our Street Dept employee Richard Walta for the clean up on Hugh St. Monday, Oct. 11.  We picked up 10 bags of trash!  Please Don't litter!!!!

Thanks to a GREAT group of volunteers this month of May: Peggy and Ben Kinlaw, Jimbo and Dana Moody, Chad Perry, Suzanne Lott, Lisa Halford and our most valuable volunteer - Liz Ringus!  Thanks also to our city employee Marcus Hughes for helping pick up the 20+ bags!!!!  

Thanks to those who helped Make a Difference on Monday, April 12.  We picked up 10 bags of trash and one tire. 

THANKS to those few who made a difference at our Community Clean up on Saturday, March 27.  Thank you to Darlene Sanders of the BCSO, BHS student Kenneth Dobson, City Council member Peggy Kinlaw, County Council member Ben Kinlaw, Liz Ringus, J. Jenkins, and Ashley Culp!  19 volunteer hours, 300 LBS OF TRASH AND 20+ BAGS!

A BIG THANK you to Liz Ringus, Phyllis Rhodie, and our city employee Richard Walta who came out Monday afternoon, November 9 and helped pick up 11 bags of litter (80 lbs) in the Wellington Street parking areas by Lake Edgar Brown.  Sorry - no photos this month!  Look for us next month!!!!

Thank you to Council Member Billy Dozier, Sheriff's Deputy Darlene Sanders, and our City employee Eric Moore on Monday, October 12.  We picked up 9 bags of trash on both sides of Dunbarton Blvd from Days Inn almost to Wannamaker Dr.  

Wow - we cleaned up a lot for three of us working on June 8.  We picked up eight bags of trash from the lake parking lot up to the red light at Wellington and Ellenton Streets.  THANKS so much to Liz Ringus and our city employee Marcus Hughes.    

Great work on Monday, May 11, making a difference!  Liz Ringus and our water/sewer employee Rojelio Barajas along with these two young men, Syntavion Priester and Tirek Lamont.  They just came up and offered to help.  Thanks to all!

THE GREAT AMERICAN CLEAN UP!

Thanks to all who participated!  We had a fairly full container.  There was 1 ton in the container.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE MONDAY! 

Thanks to Amy and Callie Bozard and Elizabeth, Madelynn and Noah Hutson for their efforts on Hagood Ave as well as Liz Ringus on Derry Lane.  I also pick up in the downtown area on our April Make a Difference Monday - April 13. 

Another great turn-out for our Make A Difference Monday!  Thanks to the TWELVE volunteers that we had Monday, March 9 for our clean up on Clinton Street.  200 lbs of garbage in 26 bags with one tire picked up!!!   You all ROCK!!!

Thanks to volunteers City Councilman Billy Dozier, County Councilman Ben Kinlaw, BCSD Darlene Sanders and Daniel's Pharmacy employee Jordan Chavis, as well as Justin Bishop of the Barnwell Water Dept, we cleaned up the section between Anthony's at Reynold's Road and Marlboro Ave on Monday, February 10.  Thanks for Making a Difference!

On January 13, Liz Ringus (pictured), Lynn Hair (GO Daniel's Pharmacy!), City Employee Eric Moore and myself (Lynn McEwen) picked up 80 pounds of trash on Litchfield Street by Walmart.  

From November 2019, Thanks to several who came out for Make a Difference Monday, including Ashley Culp and her daughter Delayna.

Thanks to the GBMS Junior Beta Club for an AMAZING turnout (total of 37 volunteers that day) on Monday, Oct. 14.  YOU ROCK!!  100 lbs of trash in 20+ bags was cleaned up off the four lane (Dunbarton Blvd.)  Thanks for MAKING A DIFFERENCE!!!

Thanks to Regina Johnson of Daniel's Pharmacy and Izzie Brandt and Stephanie Brandt for Making a Difference Monday (August 12).  8 bags of trash, 2 tires and a small table and box were collected at the Wellington Street parking areas of Lake Edgar Brown.  Make a Difference Monday is the second Monday afternoon of each month from 4-5 pm.  Thank you to all of our volunteers we have had so far! 

Thanks to our 2 volunteers on July 8 - Jordan Chavis (from Daniel's Pharmacy!!!) and Liz Ringus.  With their work and 2 city employees, we picked up 10 bags of trash weighing 280 lbs!  Hugh Street has never looked better!  

Seven bags of trash were picked up on our June "Make a Difference Monday"  Thanks to those who came out!  Councilman Dozier helped out today! 

We had another GREAT turnout for our second Make a Difference Monday with 12 participants and 80 lbs of trash picked up along the lake on Bryan Street and Gilmore Street.  I want to especially thank the Barnwell School District 45 for their assistance for the first two months.  We also want to thank Daniel's Pharmacy for making it two in a row!  Please help us keep it going!  Look for information on the next Make a Difference Monday on June 10.
