Man Charged Following Standoff in Barnwell

MAN CHARGED FOLLOWING STANDOFF IN BARNWELL
The City of Barnwell Police Department charged Xavier Gillison, 18, with Violation of Parole, Shoplifting, Disorderly Conduct, Pointing and Presenting a Firearm, and Assault & Battery 3rd Degree following a standoff on Monday, September 23, 2024.
Gillison barricaded himself in an apartment complex along Litchfield Street in Barnwell, SC. The incident has been resolved, and no injuries were reported.
The City of Barnwell Police Department was assisted by the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
“I am so grateful no one was hurt,” said Barnwell Police Chief Michael Butts. “I want to thank the community for listening to law enforcement when we needed them to keep a safe distance. And I also want to thank the Sheriff’s Deputies and SLED Agents who worked together with us in a very stressful and serious situation.”
