Basketball

 

  Jr Bobcats            

This season the Barnwell recreation department is teaming up with the Charlotte Bobcats. This package comes with a bobcats youth jersey, a gym goody bag and one complimentary ticket to a select 2008-2009 Bobcats home game. It also gives your child a 10% discount at the team merchandise store, a $5 discount on membership in the Bobcats kids club along with a Jr. Bobcats membership card. Your child will also be a member of the Jr. NBA Program. The Jr. NBA program gives your child access to exclusive skills clinics featuring Bobcats players and coaches at the Charlotte Bobcats arena. Your child has a chance to be featured as “Player of the Month” on the official team website. Parents and coaches can benefit from this program also. Some of the benefits include discounted tickets to Bobcats games and discounts to summer basketball camps held at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Each coach will receive Bobcats coaches’ shirts, annual coaches Clinique access and a chance for your team to play on the Bobcats court during half time.

Our Leagues

The youth basketball program is for boys and girls ages three to fourteen. The rules are modified so that each child has a chance to play, compete and succeed. Registration begins in late November to early December with practices begining in late December to early January. Games will begin in early January, with the season ending in March. All practices last approximately one hour. Each player can expect to practice and play twice each week.

Micros Ages 3-5 (co-ed) Players play on 8 1/2 foot goals. Each player has a chance to play and have a good time interacting and learning the concept of the game.

Pee wee Ages 6-8(co-ed) Players play on 8 ½ foot goals. Each player has a chance to grasp a better concept of the basic rules of basketball.  This league teaches the importance of playing by the rules.

Missies Ages 9-14(all girls) Players play on regulation goals. This league allows young ladies to compete with players of similar abilities. This league develops and enhances basic basketball knowledge and skills.

Small Fry Ages 9-10 (all boys) Players play on regulation goals. This league is a competitive league. It allows each player to compete and develop leadership skills.

Mites Ages 11-14 (all boys) Players play on regulation goals. This league is the most competitive league for our young male athletes. The mite league prepares the young men for middle school and high school level competition.

Cheerleading

 

Youth cheerleading      Ages 5-12  Youth cheerleading is a team sport .Youth cheerleading teaches town spirit and sportsmanship.  It is a great activity for your child to express creativity. Cheerleading season is during football season. Registration begins in August. Practice begins shortly after registration.

Leagues

Flag   Ages 4-6 (co-ed) Each player is issued a jersey and a mouth piece. There is no physical contact in this league. This is a great activity for children. It gives them a chance to interact with other kids it also improves teamwork and social skills.

Pee wee Ages 7-8 Each player is issued a full uniform and equipment. This is a full tackle league. All equipment issued will be distributed after each child is measured and weighed. This league is an introduction to the fundamentals of football.

Small Fry Ages 9-10 A player that reaches the age of eleven prior to November 30th is not eligible to compete in this league (a birth certificate is required). Each player is issued a full uniform and equipment. This is a full tackle league.  All equipment issued will be distributed after each child is measured and weighed. This league travels to other local towns to compete. This is a competitive league and it teaches leadership skills and discipline.

Mites Ages 11-12 A player that reaches the age of 13 prior to November 30th is not eligible to compete in this league (a birth certificate is required). This is a full tackle league. Equipment and uniforms will be issued after each player is measured and weighed. This is the highest level of competition for athletes in this age group. This league also travels to local towns for competition. The mite group teaches teamwork, discipline, leadership and time management. This league helps the young athletes develop a good work ethic and it prepares them for the middle school and high school levels of competition.

Equipment All players 7-12 will be issued full football equipment. This includes a helmet, shoulder pads, thigh pads, knee pads, hip pads and a mouth piece. The practice pants will also be issued and used as game pants. Football cleats are recommended.

Barnwell Baseball

 

 

 

The youth sports programs are designed to help children develop teamwork skills, discipline, time management and leadership skills.  The youth program also allows children to get an excellent amount of exercise, and increase their self esteem. Most importantly it is a great way to have fun.
